Dear Mayor,

Soon you and the City Development Committee will be making a decision on the future of Waiheke's waste resources. Our community has already made it clear that we want to retain our waste management. 1550 people signed the anti-wheelie bin petition in just two weeks.

• Waiheke now has one of the highest diversion rates of waste to landfill throughout the Auckland region (this is what the Waste Minimisation Act requires).
• Our recycling system provides very high quality clean, sorted materials that in today's dire economy are finding markets.
• Our local organisation employs up to 22 local people which is good for our economy and community.
• We already have a better solution for the environment and the community than sending our waste unsorted to Auckland.
Lost – Our Representation! Waiheke has lost its council representation as our councillor Denise Roche is not allowed to represent us on this issue.
Lost – $2.5million! Every year from 2006, $2.5million has been set aside to upgrade the Waiheke Waste Transfer Station. Yet even with our cutting edge waste reducing initiatives, our transfer station has not seen any of this money.

I support our local organisation continuing the management of Waiheke’s waste and would like you to as well.

Dear Mr Bhatnagar,

As the Chairman, you and the City Development Committee will be making a decision about the future of Waiheke's waste resources. Our community has already made it clear that we want to retain our waste management when 1550 people signed the anti-wheelie bin petition in just two weeks. Waiheke's local recycling solution is working excellently:

• Waiheke now has one of the highest diversion rates of waste to landfill throughout the Auckland region (this is what the Waste Minimisation Act requires).
• Our local organisation employs up to 22 local people which is good for our economy and community.
• Our recycling system provides very high quality clean, sorted materials that in today’s dire economy are still finding markets.
• Our solution is better for the environment and the community than sending our waste unsorted to Auckland.
• Initial sorting by residents has no cost to the council

We have no council representation as our councilor Denise Roche is not allowed to represent us on this issue. Hear us now.

I support our local organisation continuing the management of Waiheke’s waste and would like you to as well.

This website was put together by a group of concerned Waiheke residents who are not employed by or affiliated with Clean Stream and / or the Waste Resource Trust.
